Join us in a discussion of our principles and purposes on Sunday, Dec. 2, between 12:45 and 3:45 PM, led by Rev. Rosemary Bray McNatt and Denominational Affairs Chair, Ryan Novosielski.
The UUA bylaws mandate a periodic review of our Principles and Purposes so that we are able to continue our tradition as a living and dynamic faith. In 2006, at the request of the Board of Trustees, the UUA’s Commission on Appraisal agreed to launch this review. The Commission invites Unitarian Universalist congregations to participate in the process. This will be the last workshop on this topic, the first having been completed last spring, and the second one in November. After this workshop, your feedback presented at this series will be submitted to the commission for review.
Since the UUA is an association of congregations, and since the prelude to the Principles makes it clear that it is a covenant among the congregations, it is important that we, as a UU congregation, make our opinions known about these texts.
People have expressed an interest in having a once-a-month parenting class. If you are interested in this, please email Aisha Hauser at aisha@4thu.org. The options are: once a month, either on a Sunday after service, or a Friday night.
On Monday, December 10, Fourth U will offer an opportunity to take a quiet break from the pace of the upcoming holiday season. For the entire day (11:00 AM until 8:00 PM) there will be a labyrinth available in our sanctuary for peaceful walking and contemplation. This ancient, multi-cultural meditative practice is undergoing a renaissance in our time. Fourth U member George Kuhn will be facilitating the event through brief presentations and by answering questions throughout the day.
The “1st Thursdays at Fourth U” adult RE series explores spirituality and spiritual practices from a UU perspective. On Thursday, December 6 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, Aisha Hauser, Fourth U’s Director of Religious Exploration, will lead a workshop on the process of reclaiming what is worthwhile from our long-discarded spiritual roots, as well as the ritual of fasting as a spiritual practice. Sponsored by the Worship Arts Committee. Light dinner will be served and childcare provided. Please contact Jennifer at jenncjack@mac.com or 718-783-8757 for more information and to RSVP for child care. We look forward to seeing you!
December 2: “Missionary Positions” - led by Rev. Rosemary Bray McNatt.
This Sunday, December 2, during the service, we will be honoring our Fourth U Spiritual Dance Group as they conclude seven years of weekly devotion and service to our congregation. Anyone who has witnessed their work can testify to the touching, and/or humorous, spiritual commitment present in every choreography they have shared over the years. Cycles must carry us forward, and the time has come for this cycle of their work to end. This will be the last performance of the group as Joe Williams and the dancers move on into other activities. If you have ever danced with the group, even if it was during last year’s retreat, please come on Thursday night, November 29, from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and rehearse with us one last time, and join us in our benediction dance to the Pachelbel Canon. We will present it on Sunday during the service. If you have enjoyed the Dance Group over the years, please attend this Sunday’s service and show your appreciation for all their years of work.
