We are creating a Network of Kindness for members and friends here at Fourth U, and we are looking for volunteers who are willing to give their time to help those in our community who are in need. There are many opportunities both large and small that will help members and friends know they have a support system in this community. Your contribution might be in the form of visiting a member in the hospital or getting groceries for someone recovering from an illness; accompanying someone to a doctor’s appointment, picking up laundry or cooking a dish; or writing a card to someone you haven’t seen around Fourth U in a while. We will be periodically asking participants to update their information for the Network of Kindness, so you can let us know if you are still interested in helping. There will be a training session in the spring to inform and enlighten volunteers about issues of confidentiality and how to best handle delicate situations.

Please contact Carolyn MacLaury at parismalcolm464@aol.com or Rev. Rosemary Bray McNatt at revrose@4thu.org if you are interested in putting your name on our network list. At that time please let us know when you are available to volunteer and how you want to help.

Disaster Chaplaincy Services, a multi-faith organization devoted to helping victims of crises deal with the emotional and spiritual shocks during emergencies, recently lost their home. Julie Taylor, the Executive Director of DCS and member at Fourth U, put out a call for help and the Church answered. The organization’s nerve center has temporarily been relocated to our choir loft. Our Senior Minister, Rev. Rosemary Bray McNatt, and two of our Affiliate Ministers, Rev. Ed Bolella and Rev. Jill Bowden, are volunteers with DCS, and it’s a big boost to our ministry to aid in this important spiritual and healing endeavor. You can learn more about the organization at www.disasterchaplaincy.org .
