Humanist Discussions Occasional discussion groups exploring themes related to the humanistic worldview, personal values, and social psychology. Join the Rev. Joseph Ben-David, a life-long activist for Palestine/Israel reconciliation. The people he has worked with include Martin Buber, Bertrand Russell, Erich Fromm, Hannah Arendt, Roger Baldvin, Norman Thomas and other civil libertarians. He lived for eight years in Palestine under the British mandate and seven years in the State of Israel. As a war resister, Rev. Ben-David served as a hygiene officer in the medical corps. Dedicating himself to the cause of liberal culture in the new State, his peace efforts included the founding, in the spirit of the martyred Czech Unitarian Minister, Norbert Capek, the Society for Creative Culture, helping to organize students at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, and organizing the “Lovers of Jerusalem,” a group of Christians, Jews, Muslims, Druzes and Quakers whose mutual objective was to counter fanaticism, hate and violence. He is an ordained Czech Unitarian Minister who lives in NYC and is a member of the 4th Universalist Society. Rev. Ben-David has been an NGO delegate of the Church of Humanism to many meetings of the United Nations.
